When I had first seen stuff about this game, let me tell you, I was extremely excited. Bravely Default, one of the most original turn-based combat games I have played on the 3DS. The game is new to the United States but was released elsewhere in 2013, sadly making us late to the celebration of a great game.
Bravely Default has several aspects of usual role-playing games (RPG), yet its biggest selling point are the two modes that overwhelm combat. These are the "Brave" and "Default" systems. Selecting "Brave" while in combat causes the character you chose to receive an extra turn to either attack or use a spell. Whereas, "Default" allows you to do nothing in that turn, but earn BP, "Brave Points" that you can save to use the "Brave" system. Also, Bravely Default allows the player to change the class of any of the four characters as long as you aren't in battle. Example being, if you are about to fight an extremely powerful boss in the game and you know its weakness, you can change everyone's class to that specific one! (I've done that once, but I kept one as a cleric/healer so that my units could actually survive.)
The four main characters, Tiz, Agnes, Ringabel and Edea, can be controlled in battle as you follow through Tiz and Agnes's quest to restore a city that has been torn up by a black hole. These characters make up an amazing storyline with various funny and dramatic sequences to further progress the game. I believe the only issue with these characters is the English voice acting implemented in the USA version. If there was an option to change what language the voice acting was in and have subtitles so that it wasn't too generic for my tastes, I would definitely use it.
Despite the negative points to this RPG, Bravely Default is an overall great game and I would recommend it to anyone who is willing to spend around forty dollars on a game for the 3DS and has the taste for RPG style games. It is truly a masterpiece and is one of the best games I have played in my gaming lifetime, as I was raised on the classics and the RPG style of games. I feel like the individuality of Bravely Default affected my view and overall made the experience of this massively difficult game even better.
(Keep in mind, I haven't finished this game yet due to its difficulty even on NORMAL MODE! I should switch to easy to ease my rage at this game and its bosses with so much health because I'm a wimp.)
