SIGN UP FOR LEAGUE OF LEGENDS HERE!
League of Legends, abbreviated as "LoL", is a multiplayer online battle arena game, first created in 2009 by the company Riot Games. It is completely free-to-play, the only money you'll spend counts on buying "Riot Points" which buy you "skins", which are different outfits for your owned characters. All you have to do to play this game is make an account, download and install, and suddenly you're in the new-and-improved world of League of Legends, originally created as a mod of Defense of The Ancients (DotA).
The game play flows simply, but reminisces to DotA, as you chose a "champion", which is your character you chose to control, and go to your preferred "lane" on the map. Each champion in League of Legends has unique, different abilities of select types. Some examples might be stuns, snares, and other handicaps to your opposing champions. During the game, you kill minions which give you your in-game currency of gold to buy items that cause you to become stronger. The goal is to push turrets, or towers, that shoot at minions and champions alike, have decent armor, and take damage from your "basic attacks", which are your normal clicking attacks, unlike abilities, which are used with the keys "Q" "W" "E" and "R." At the end of the game, to get the victory screen or the dreaded, dragged-out defeat screen, you must destroy the enemy "nexus" or have yours destroyed, which spawns minions and is basically the base of both you and your enemy. Throughout the game, the entire point is to protect your nexus, take the objectives like towers, Dragon and Baron, and to kill your enemies and their nexus. Baron is a buff that spawns at fifteen minutes of play time and re-spawns after death within five minutes, while Dragon buff spawns around five minutes, re-spawning at two minutes after being killed.
League of Legends holds a few modes of playing, ranging from everyone selecting roles pre-game screen and ranked. There are Normal Matches, a game mode where you and your opponents are sent to the "champion select" screen and must co-operate to choose their champions and roles respectively. Team Builder, the same as Normal Matches, except now you search for the roles you need so that you may get the role and champion you prefer to play. Then, Ranked, where you only can solo, duo, or play in your respective teams. It is a mode that counts for your reputation in your account, and when you complete ten ranked games if you first start, you are placed into a rank that matches your skill level, calculated by the client and your wins. (There is also Three vs Three game play, but I personally find those games completely boring and overall annoying, as there are only a few select champions good for that mode. And there is "Dominion", but nobody plays it because of how terribly made it is...)
Overall, League of Legends is an amazing, fun-filled game, with enough choices to entertain me for the largest spans of time. It's great to play with friends in a Skype call, or just alone to practice, but however you play, you should relax and have fun. Sure, the community is somewhat toxic at times, but only because people don't learn that it's just a game! But yes, losing ranked games gets me infuriated, so I can't talk...
